The tasks assigned to the player must be completed in order to progress through the storyline, but every action results in consequences. Who is the tormentor? Why is he so vengeful towards your family? How far do you have to go to satisfy this individual? How can you justify the killing in the sake of saving someone’s life? And how will you cope with the sense of guilt?
The player must grapple with this, along with a set of heavy questions. Seems that a mysterious individual has given you a grim task to kill randomly-selected people in order to save your own family. The psychological horror game, which takes inspiration from Polanski and Kubrick, casts the player in an uncomfortable position: Forced to murder.
For horror gamer fans of Roman Polanski’s Repulsion or Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, developer Pentacle has a gorgeous-looking little ditty for you in The Works of Mercy, which is set for release June 7th.
